The Results of Catcalling

Every day there are women getting catcalled and continue to walk after being hurt because of the names men call them by. Catcalling has been a big issue for women which can lead to making them feel insecure everywhere they go. There are two sides of catcalling the good and bad one. The good side of it is when it’s meant in a romantic or friendly way when a boyfriend and friends say it. But when women walk in the streets that is when catcalling is bad. Men will begin approaching and start calling them names or begin to insult them if women don’t pay attention to them. In the news, there have been stories where teenage girls or woman are kidnapped in the streets and have been raped. The video “Walking Home” is very realistic because it hasn’t ended. It still exists and puts women in danger each time because you don’t know how far men can go with their catcalling. The purpose of this video is to show that women who get cat called never say anything when they are being catcalled; instead they just keep on walking face down to the ground. It also points out how women want people to not call them names based on their appearance, but by their identity which is their name. In the video each woman would say their name and what it symbolizes who they really are and what describes them.

 The other YouTube film called “Shit Men Say” purpose is to influence men to do two things. The influential things are for men who catcall to stop it, and show the other part of men ways to prevent street harassment. During the video it shows how dumb men look like when they catcall. It also points out how their own friends may feel or think about them when they catcall. This video is to make men aware men that catcalling isn’t a compliment, but a form of harassment towards women. Another thing this video wants the audience to know is that catcalling should end. This video can be shown to that one friend men have that catcall, and make him realize how stupid catcalling is.  Women will tend to think that all men are the same and will just approach them to catcall. They still haven’t wondered what will happen if a man hears someone catcalling and decides to defend the woman. Things can get really ugly, but if that’s what they need in order to stop then let’s hope they learned the lesson.  Men only catcall when they’re with friends and see a woman walking alone. The only times men won’t catcall is if they’re alone and if a woman is with someone. That is when they will think twice before doing it. In this video it even shows how friends can react or say when one of them catcalls. I’m sure if friends really do that they will feel so dumb and regret it.
